Excalibur
Excalibur is a
GPS/IMU guided 155 mm Artillery projectile which navigates to within
a few metres of the predetermined target, already at the first shot.
The guidance is executed by canards,
located on the front end of the projectile, controlled from the on
board Guidance, Navigation and Control system getting its location
from the GPS satellites.
Excalibur will
enhance the range of the Artillery system to reach beyond 50 km, and
the target is hit with the same high precision even at the longest
ranges.
For target location updates during
flight an up-link to the projectile is provided.

The projectile is
modular in design and can be provided with various types of
payloads.
Excalibur can deliver
sensor-fuzed submunition as e.g. the BONUS for hard targets, DPICM
type bomblets or a unitary warhead for Army or Navy type targets.
The development
and production of Excalibur is an International
Co-operation program between the US Army and Swedish Defence Materiel Administration on
the customer side and Raytheon Missile Systems and Bofors Defence on the
industry side.
