Integrated Logistic Support

The Life Cycle
Cost for a defence system can be divided into a fixed acquisition cost and a flexible, often hard-to-predict life support cost. Most frequently the life support cost forms the major part of the total Life Cycle Cost.

Bofors Defence combines the manufacture of high quality and reliable defence equipment with the requirement of developing and producing a system integrating the necessary logistic support. In turn, this ensures high operational availability with optimized cost levels for the equipment throughout its entire life cycle.

By integrating elements of support and other related activities into the total engineering effort, Bofors can build low life support costs into the equipment from the very start of the design.

Operational availability, however, is not only a function of system performance, but also of how well a system is integrated with the user organization and operation doctrines.

Elements, such as support and test equipment, supply support, training devices, technical manuals and maintenance assistance, are developed and defined in close cooperation with the customer. This is the only way of maximizing cost-effectiveness.

ILS within the Bofors Defence is based on international standards and corresponds to CALS initiative.
