Unique certification
In addition to its quality certificate Swedish-based Bofors Defence,
owned by American United Defence, has recently been certified for its information security.
Being
able to protect a company’s information assets is vital in
today’s society.
Organizations are often
threatened in several ways, and because of the dependence on
information systems organizations are vulnerable.
Bofors Defence
has
understood the importance of an information security certificate.
– It is
vital
both for us and for our customers. Since we also deal with
many international contacts, a world-wide certificate of this kind is essential, said Anders Jonsson, Director of Information Technology at Bofors Defence.
The information security
certification process has taken two years, which is a relatively
short period of time.
– We
had
a good foundation to start from, since
Bofors Defence already had several information security rules.
The certification process was mainly a matter of educating the employees,
making sure that they are aware of the routines and follow them, said Anders Jonsson.
In the certification process a
large number of internal revisions have been made and Bofors Defence
have undertaken risk analyses of the company’s document flows,
information technology infrastructure and of the internal and
external staff.
Also an
overall risk analysis has been made of the information that the management find most important.
The certificate is termed SS
62 77 99-2 and is the Swedish version of the British BS 7799-2:2002.
Det Norske Veritas
executed the certification and Bofors Defence has decided to unite the SS 62 77 99-2 certificates with its ISO 9000:2000 quality certificate.
– Bofors
Defence
has been very ambitious in there efforts to qualify for the information security certificate, said Jan Ekberg at Det Norske Veritas.
